[Publib] Publib request

Ok, here's two cents worth - Maybe 1 1/2,
First, when our board considers a "Request to Reconsider", it carries much
more weight if the challenge is from a patron. Putting the form online,
while convenient, would open you up to challenges that (perhaps) were
"bandwagon" requests.
Secondly, my first question to anyone who suggests we should pull an item is
"Did you read this?" Taking the word of a friend, pastor, respected leader,
etc, is not good enough for me. While people can hand in a Reconsider form
without having read the work (that question is on the form) it seriously
reduces their credibility with the board.
I find that the dialog with a patron who is upset about a book can be
educational for both of us and I would resist putting a form online. I think
losing that interaction is not worth the "convenience".
This from a conservative librarian in a rather conservative area,
Andrea

Subject: [Publib] Publib request
A local official asks that the form used for citizen challenge of library
materials be placed on the library's website for availability there, as
opposed to availability at the reference desk. Is there anything in the OIF
documentation and our library freedom documents that would suggest that the
direct in-library contact between library staff and the patron is the proper
means of starting the materials challenge process?
