In the late nineties, the new technology of e- book readers
emerged and many libraries purchased these devices.  E-readers never became popular largely
because of cost and technical problems. 
Recently technology emerged to support these devices and numerous books
have now been made available in digital formats.  Ebrary
and netlibrary have become very
common in library databases throughout the country, making digital books
available to more people.  Sony has taken
the forefront in e-book readers and has put a lot time into promoting them, the
PRS-500.  Has any library decided to
purchase and use them in the library?
