Reviews Outside the Mainstream
RUSA CODES Materials Reviewing Committee
Kevin King, Jane Jorgenson, and Bob Holley
Saturday, June 28, 10:30am-12:00
204A Anaheim Convention Center

Have you wondered if personal reviews in blogs, discussions lists, and sites like Amazon.com can improve book selection? Do you want to order more graphic novels and video games but don't know how to pick the best ones? If you need answers, then come to the program on "Reviews outside the Mainstream" on Saturday, June 28 from 10:30-12:00 in 204A Anaheim Convention Center.

This program, sponsored by the RUSA CODES Materials Reviewing Committee and co-sponsored by the ALCTS Collection Management and Development Section, focuses on non-traditional formats and non-traditional reviewing sources. Kevin King, Head of Loan and Outreach Services, Kalamazoo Public Library, brings his eight years' experience in dealing with teens to suggest the best review sources for graphic novels. Jane Jorgenson, Home Services Coordinator, Madison Public Library, Wisconsin edits her library's book review blog and will draw upon her experiences with reader-based review sources. Bob Holley, Professor of Library & Information Science, Wayne State University has a secret passion for computer games and has collected over 3,000. He'll share his tips on how to pick the "winners." If they miss your selection dilemma, there will be plenty of time for questions from the audience.
