I work in a public library and have three teenagers living with me right
now. Maybe the teens in my life are exceptions to the rule, but they
read deeply and for pleasure.
They also chat with friends, write fan fiction and text all too
frequently.
I don't feel that they suffer from electronic "substance abuse." I
think that these are all just many facets of information, communication
and expression.
Deep reading and research can still exist in their lives, but as always,
there has to be a need for it, time for it and these skills need to be
taught.
That's why we are here: Parents, concerned adults, educators and
librarians.
