Hi, Elizabeth,
We are no longer purchasing new audiobooks in cassette format. We
stopped doing this about a year ago. We could see that use of the
cassette collection was consistently dropping as CD use was rising, so
we decided it was time to focus our attention on CDs. At that time, I
undertook a massive weeding of the collection to make space for more
CDs, but did not wipe them out entirely. Cassettes now make up about
35% of our audiobook collection, and I am weeding them regularly as
they come through damaged, missing tapes, etc. They will most likely
be gone completely in a couple of years.
I thought there might be an outcry from audiobook patrons when I
initially withdrew about 600 of them last year, but there was nary a
peep of protest.
