At my former library we got rid of the public phone (on the wall in the foyer, not a phone booth) when the phone company started charging us and usage wasn't high enough to justify keeping it. At my current library (which is less than three years old) we didn't even have one installed. For the few people that don't have a cell phone (mostly kids) we let them use the phone at the Reference desk and charge them 50 cents per call.
