[Publib] Pre-paid standing orders

We also had standing orders with BWI for children's series books and
cancelled for the same reason- it cost too much for shipping. It was
ridiculous! They would send 1 or 2 paperbacks in a box large enough to
accommodate an encyclopedia set. We also found that when we ordered other
items from BWI they sometimes took months to come in. It was convenient to
have series on standing order with them, but I found it far more
cost-effective and much faster to order the series books from amazon with
free shipping.

We also had a standing order BWI but it wasn't "prepaid"...they billed us
for the books. But I recently cancelled it as the shipping cost was
exceeding the price of one book. They would only ship one book at a time
and always in a large over sized box - sometimes we would receive four books
at a time, but each in their own separate package. It was eating up the
library's budget. I spoke to them about this but they had no solution.

We have standing orders with BWI. They have selections by age level (or
reading level) and we get 2 books from each level we have chosen each
quarter. Since we have only one person to handle all children's
programming, collection development, and anything else to do with children,
the standing order with BWI is invaluable.

Does anyone use pre-paid standing orders for children's books? DVDs or Music
CDs? If so, with whom?
