Greetings, I have been really surprised at the tone and vehemency in response to my statements about my job search lament. There have been some very unprofessional, harsh words stated, as well as some statements of very great support in the mailings. I apologize for the grammar and spelling errors, and for expressing myself so freely in my writing "Laments of a Public Librarian". I was distracted at a busy reference desk at the time of writing. I have learned my lesson-thank you! So no more put downs please.... I know I am not ageist, anti tech, or against minorities. I really enjoy the enthusiasm of my co-workers who are youthful, older, or new to the profession. They bring many skills and energy to the library world. I have enjoyed many jobs in very diverse communities, including working in International Languages Department in the middle of Los Angeles. I love technology and use it successfully everyday, and am willing to learn and continue to be a life long learner. That is why I chose library work for my profession. My point was that I am basically frustrated by not getting hired, especially in a field I where I have worked with dedications and for many years with great enthusiasm. My disappointment for not getting hired in Seattle, a city I had called home for 40 years, was my motivator for writing. However, we are relocating to another city soon. I would welcome any comments about job search strategies, or offers for revisions of my resume, networking clues, possible job leads, and general professional support. I love the profession and hope that the tone and acceptance on this listserv can be more positive. Perhaps we all can learn to have success with our jobs and learn supportive behavior through this discussion. Best regards, Terri L.
