Thanks, John. I felt from the outset that while the postings in question
were problematical the appropriate, (and kind), way of handling criticism
was by off-list reply to the poster. I'm sorry that I didn't write sooner to
the list and to the poster.

It may be that some people did write directly--we'll probably never know.
But to air these grievances in "public" did not serve anyone well.

Folks,
Every list is subject to unusual postings. PubLib is no exception. For
those of you who don't care to admonish and assist the "transgressor"
off-list I would posit that it's better for your own psyche and karma,
not to mention easier, to hit the delete button versus flaming another
PubLibber.
While I'm not a long time subscriber I have been fortunate enough to
benefit from the vast collective of knowledge and experience that we
call PubLib. However, from my observation of PubLib over the past few
years, mistakes in protocol and/or "questionable" comments are dealt
with harshly by quite a few. Generally speaking it betrays a lack of
patience, tolerance and understanding from our virtual community,
particularly toward those studying to enter our profession. If I were a
library student I would approach this list with great trepidation, leery
of those frustrated enough to pounce at the slightest breech in decorum.
Regards,
John
PS. If my calculations are correct this will be the 37th posting on this
subject.

>>2) His spelling/grammar was a mess. Not the best image to project ..

Precisely what led me to wonder if English was the first language, for
Ron. Hmmm?
?? Your moderators have
1) written to Ron, asking if there is a particular question/topic we
(all) can help
him with ..and pointed out that many here feel this has been a one-way,
not two
way, "conversation."
2) set Ron's messages to moderated. A REALLY extreme PubLib measure,
that.

Sorry if that didn't happen soon enough. OTOH...suppose Ron's posts were
a test
(just for the heckuva it ..suppose). How did we do as patient teachers?
Hmmmm??
Library school students are the future of our profession. Up to us
elders (I'm 60
and have been in this game for 35-yrs, last month, but you can be 26 and
be an
elder) to help, instruct, bring along, encourage, share--and learn from
our future,
too. </grump>
