Certainly a cheering news for librarians! A leading Indian book house,
with over 40 years of unblemished record of various library services
across the continents, DK Agencies now comes with two altogether new
products that will surely lighten the arduous task of the librarians
handling Indic/South Asian collections. Both these products have been
developed by DK’s own Software Division. The first one, named
INDscripteR, is designed to convert the Romanized text of an Indic
language (transliterated according to ALA/LC Romanization Tables) into
its original (Indic) script -- by using Unicode. The other, called
INDenhanceR, is an excellent, time-saving software that enables a
librarian to enhance MARC records with tag 880 (Alternate Graphic
Representation) in the original (Indic) script – also by using Unicode.
The librarian has just to open a file containing various MARC records of
anyone of the Indic/South Asian numerous languages, run the batch
conversion process, and save the file. It is all too simple, all too
effortless. INDenhanceR can also be used to convert MARC-8 records into
UTF-8 records. For any further enquiries or the trial version of the
softwares, the interested librarians/users, may contact
custserv at dkagencies.com <mailto:custserv at dkagencies.com>.
Today, when an estimated 200 million Indians with varying linguistic
backgrounds are scattered in different parts of the world, the value of
INDscripteR and INDenhanceR hardly needs to be emphasized!
