I just wanted to tell everyone goodbye since I am retiring as of Friday. I
have so enjoyed my time on this list. I must admit I didn't always agree
with some of you, and I didn't always read the topics that I wasn't
interested in, but I always came away with something to make my library life
easier or brighter or more understandable.
I've spent almost my entire life (since I was an 8th grader) working in
either school or public libraries and I've never regretted it. The more
things changed in the library world, the more I've found remains the same.
We are still committed to helping people find things-books, information, (on
occasion, lost children and or spouses), themselves. We do it mostly for
long hours and smallish pay and we usually do it cheerfully.
There is always a lot they never tell you in library school, but the biggest
two things are the amount of support you get from your library peers and the
pleasures of working with and for your library patrons (showing my age
here-they've never been customers to me).
Anyway, thanks for letting me join you all the last few years-and may you
and all your libraries prosper.
