We do a couple of things

1. we note on our flyer that if patrons are later than 5 mins to the class their space will be forfeited
2. Patrons who call for a full class can be waitlisted but we also encourage them to "turn up on the day"
and see if there are places - quoting #1 "rule. This has really worked well
3. We have lab monitors call with a reminder 1 week before the class and ask for a return call to confimr/cancel etc otherwise their place may be forfeited.

We found all the above have worked well. Most people appreciate the reminder and if they don't then we "mark" their record as a "do not call" - these have usually been patrons who are really organized and reliable.

A question for the list...  how do you handle computer workshop
registrations? 

We have a computer lab with 12 computers we use for computer workshops. 

We require pre-registration for the workshops, 

but lately we have had a rash of non-attendance which leaves numerous
empty computers during the workshops. 

It becomes difficult to justify closing the lab to "public use" with
only 5 computers in use during the workshops. 

 

My question, how do other libraries handle this problem?
