We have a classroom that is used just for computer workshops. So, while non-attendance is annoying, we pretty much let it slide unless it is someone who habitually misses classes. Something we do to avoid non-attendance is make reminder calls 1 to 2 days before the workshop. This has helped quite a bit. If we have to leave a message on voicemail we ask them to give us a call back if they think they won't be able to attend.
