Our library recently did a summer theme "cooking without the heat"
class. Here is a link to the newspaper article about it. Check out the
great photos...

“You see, I don't believe that libraries should be drab places where
people sit in silence, and that's been the main reason for our policy of
employing wild animals as librarians.”

Our library did our first cooking demo last fall and it was very
successful. I hired a local caterer to demonstrate "Cooking with Herbs"
and she prepared five dishes "live" and explained how to prepare each
one. Then we tast tested! It was a blast.

If your library has a stove...GREAT! We don't so we had to think of
dishes that could be made at the library without an oven. This fall we
will be doing a "tea party" themed cooking session.

In my personal opinion, cooking classes are fun to host and people are
generally drawn to programs that offer food! I found it beneficial to
have a sign up so I knew how many people to prepare for. (Plus, the
caterer needed a headcount!)

Thank you for your feedback on book club discussions. Here's another
question: Does your library offer adult cooking classes?

Do you have patrons cook or does the instructor simply go through the
steps? Do you charge and if so, how much?

Any suggestions, advice, or warnings will be heeded.
