We are currently in the midst of a renovation project and we are trying to estimate a reasonable level of staffing for the new space, so the board can budget appropriately (we hope). I am hoping that information from PubLib members will help us justify our request.

 

Here are some relevant library characteristics of our library (located in a prosperous suburb of Philadelphia):

Collection size: 100,000+

Annual circulation: 330,000 (which of course we expect to increase with the new space)

Adult and Young Adult collections on main floor; Children's collection downstairs (in other words, we have two circulation desks, on separate floors)

 

If you work in a library that is more-or-less comparable (i.e. a medium-sized public library), I would be interested in knowing how many staff you normally have on duty at your

1.	Circulation Desk
2.	Reference Desk
3.	Children's Desk

 

If you increase staffing during certain busy times, also indicate when and where, and how many staff are added.
