[Videolib] White Paper on Digital Video Licensing

Ladies and Gentlement, Boys and Girls!

As most of your know, a discussion concerning licensing models for streamed
video is planned for Monday, September 22, 2008, the day before
the official
start of the 2008 National Media Market in Lexington, KY.

In anticipation
of this meeting I have developed a "white paper" in collaboration with Lawrence
Daressa of California Newsreel which attempts
to lay out some of the central
issues and viewpoints from both buyer and seller perspectives. This paper
is by no means comprehensive or final; it is simply an attempt to start the
conversation rolling.

In order for the September discussion to be effective,
your input, views and opinions on the topic are absolutely essential. To
this end, I have set up a blog at: http://mrcstream.wordpress.com/

The
site includes a link to a pdf version of the paper. You can offer your comments
by clicking on the COMMENT link at the lower left-hand side
of the home page
(your name and email address are required to post). Comments will sequentially
thread. You can offer your comments or respond
to a colleagues comments.
I hope to aggregate the comments made on this site and incorporate them into
the paper, when appropriate.

Because I think it is important to get input
from as wide a constituency as possible, I would appreciate someone on the
videolib list forwarding
this message on to the CCUMC listserv, the ACRL
ARTS list, ALCTS, or other relevant discussion lists. (Since I'm not a member
of any of these lists, I need your help).

Please let me know if you have
questions regarding the paper or the blog. I look forward to a lively and
productive online discussion in the next few months.
