Hello again.
A couple of weeks ago I asked for your suggestions and/or solutions for
shelving Board Books for toddlers. I want to thank all who responded with
helpful suggestions. Several of you asked that I compile of list of those
suggestions to share. Here is the list.
THANK-YOU AGAIN!!
Bins that attach to regular shelving - they have adjustable
dividers so you can decide how wide each section of the bin will be. We
don't keep these books in any order, so they are very easy to shelve. This
has worked well and will use this type of shelving when moving into our new
library next year.
Sand-box type enclosure is used to hold the Board Books.
(Plastic turtle sand box). These are inviting and toddlers have liked to
investigate. Has worked very well. Keep them in no special order.
Sturdy bins that sit on the floor and toddlers can pick
their own books. - board book circulation soared when we started using the
bins instead of the regular book shelves.
Stackable Storage wooden bins (website -
www.allbutgrownups.com and do a search for item # WB-0021).
Crates or baskets on the floor - not kept in any special
order.
Stackable wooden cubes painted bright colors.
Book display bins, attached to regular shelving, so the
covers can face out so kids and parents can browse easily. Kept in no
particular order.
DO NOT BUY - cute display cubes on wheels that can spin
around - they are cute but you will have piles of books on the floor.
Use a Red Wagon for the Board Books. - Kids like to pull
them around the library.
Low mobile browsing display units - Highsmith has a nice
selection. They are low - no higher than 2 feet. They can be easily moved
out of the way for story time or other activities. Weed Board Book
collection heavily.
Large round display bin with 3 levels - keep in no special
order.
Portable Book Organizer from Lakeshore Learning
((http://www.lakeshorelearning.com/seo/ca|searchResults~~p|DG429~~.jsp) --
low and mobile.
Mobile Book Browser Cart with metal frame and plastic bins to
hold the books. (Demco, Copernicus Book Browser Cart ( www.demco.com --
and search for Copernicus Book Browser Cart).
These look like wonderful suggestions and I will incorporate some of them
into our plans for Board Book Shelving.
