[Publib] Residential addresses and phone numbers

Google does a pretty good job. Just type in name, city and state and you
can usually get the complete address, phone number and a map for either
residential or business listings.

To veer slightly off topic, they also offer free 411 service for businesses,
which I have been using on my cell phone for a couple of months now and find
it works very well. The number is 1-800-GOOG-411 (1-800-466-4411), you say
the city and state, name a specific business (Sophie's Nail Salon) or just
say "nail salon" and it gives you results quickly and in my experience,
accurately. There is also an option to have the information text messaged
to your phone, or you can use the keypad to spell the first few letters of a
listing and it will find it that way. And thus far, it is ad-free.

Cheers,
Stacy

Subject: [Publib] Residential addresses and phone numbers

Greetings,

We have been subscribing to ReferenceUSA for several years, and now the
librarians in my library would like to explore other options for getting
access to both residential and business information. It was mentioned at a
meeting that residential phone numbers and addresses were available free on
several different webs sites, and I was tasked with looking into which ones
might be appropriate for us to use (meaning, essentially, has correct
information and so forth). I am aware of Yahoo People Search,
WhitePages.com, and Switchboard.com. Does anybody use these in their library
regularly? Pros/cons to using any of them? Are there others one available
that do a better job? Thanks.
