Our Code of Conduct says this is prohibited: "Use by adult patrons, who
do not have a legitimate reason for being in the children’s or young
adult’s areas, of reading areas, tables or computers intended for use by
children or young adults." (emphasis mine)
Adults who have a REASON for using the children's or YA areas are
welcome. Adults who don't have any reason for being there are asked to
go elsewhere in the library. ("I like to hang out and watch the kids" is
not considered a legitimate reason.) We also have security, cameras and
staff who rove the children's floor.
It works for us and for our patrons, and I don't believe it denies
anyone access.
