[Publib] Stumper: Vietnamese girl goes to America

A patron read this in junior high (about 10 years ago) and believes it was an autobiography (?) and can't remember the title.  Does this sound familiar to anyone?  

 

There is a girl from Vietnam that was blinded, possibly blinded by tear gas (?) and her family couldn't afford to take care of her.  They sent her to an orphanage.  Eventually, she ends up in the United States for surgery.  She marries an American.

 

That's about all she can remember.  Any thoughts?
