Sometimes I use a light-hearted quotation:
She is too fond of books, and it has turned her brain. -- Louisa May Alcott

I cannot think of a greater blessing than to die in one's own bed,
without warning or discomfort, on the last page of a new book that we
most wanted to read. -- Lord John Russell (OK, maybe not so lighthearted)

I've been reading in the tub since I was nine. I've dropped books in
the water, wrecked many, and may even drown someday reading in the
tub. What a wonderful way to go. -- Joan Vass, in At Home with Books.

And maybe my favorite: The covers of this book are too far apart. --
Ambrose Bierce

These are all from Speaking of Books: The Best Things Ever Said About
Books and Book Collecting edited by Rob Kaplan and Harold Rabinowitz
