Your 1950s find put me in mind of a more recent title, The Perfect $100,000
House: A Trip Across America and Back in Pursuit of a Place to Call Home by
Karrie Jacobs. I'll ruin the ending for you - she couldn't find a perfect
house for only a $100,000...

Subject: [Publib] Monday morning humor redux -- interesting interpretations

Interesting to see how different people responded to my "Monday humor"
post. I'm not worried about people going through the dumpster and causing
a, um, stink (dumpsters...stink...get it?), or how to deal with the mold, or
searching for the Antiques Road Show quality title.

*I* think it's amusing to be reminded that in 1950, a "dream home" could be
purchased for $3,500. Guess I didn't make myself clear. (And, yes, I *do*
know that things were different back then, so it's not that I don't *know*
that houses were cheaper. But a DREAM HOME for $3,500...oh, I do like that
price.)

But then, my wife and I laugh at the books that contain plans for "the
smaller home," starting with houses @ 2,500-3,000 sq. ft. SMALLER???
Not to mention groaning at trying to buy furniture that actually fits a
"smaller" home.

And Dianne, we are digging out once again, three hours south of Joliet.
I feel your pain. My son stomped past me on his way to school this
morning--without speaking to me--as I was snowblowing the sidewalk; HE
wanted a SNOW DAY, and acted as if the weather might be a personal insult to
his very existence. At least our plowing service got to the library at a
reasonable hour this a.m. I was surprised that no staff member said
anything to me yesterday about a snow day today. ("I will gladly pay you
Tuesday for a hamburger today." "I will gladly work overtime on xxxday if
you give us a snow day on yyyday." Ha!)
