[Publib] How do you catalog manga?

Kate,
We just went through this with all our GN/manga. We shortened the dewey
class to 741.5 for all of it (instead of .5973 for US-done comics like
Superman, and .5952 for Japanese manga and .5952something more for Korean
manga, etc., because this is complicated and hard to keep the shelves neat).
Our patrons prefer to find titles by character rather than author (and those
who ONLY read Frank Miller's Batman know the titles and/or can still look
him up in the catalog), so we use the title as the basis for the letter bit
of the call number (we don't Cutter, though). So Batman: Year One is
741.5BAT instead of
741.5973 MIL.

We do put most manga in the YA section, and most GNs -- some are in the
adult collection, though. We're a small library (town of 25,000).
