Hi Wyanita,

Playaways have been a big hit in our libraries and we've created several collection codes for them.

We have a fiction, non-fiction and biography collection code for them in the Adult, Young Adult and the Juvenile sections. Their item type code is sound recording.

Hope this helps,
Gair

Subject: [Publib] cataloging playaways

This is a tech services question, but our cataloger asked my opinion and I said I'd pass it along. My library has purchased two pre-loaded playaways and how to other libraries catalog them? Do you simply catalog them with our audio books on CD or have you created a special holdings code? My opinion is to create a holdings code so as to specifically track circulation, but does anyone have a better idea? Thanks so much for your help.
