When our library moved to a new 130,000 sq ft building, three story building, two way radios were put to use for communication with computer assistants and safety officers (security). At closing, librarians use the radios to let each other know when their floors are clear of patrons, or if there are stragglers on the floor.
Individuals are trained in radio use, and are expected to keep communication within the specific purposes.
I was not here for the original purchase, but we have already switched to different, smaller radios. We use Motorola CLS1410 two-way radios. The model we use comes with holsters, headsets and charging stations. They are lightweight and easy to use.

Do any libraries (particularly public) out there use 2-way radios
(walkie-talkies) for any type of service you provide, especially ref service?
If so, how was the proposal presented and how did you select the equipment -- would you be
willing to share your experience? -- especially what you would not do if
you to do it all over.
thanks,
mas
