[Publib] Children of staff

Like Ilene, if I saw the directive about bringing a child to work (Your
children are not to be brought to work with you, come to your work
location after school until closing, or otherwise "hang out" at your
work location except under extreme circumstances and only with prior
permission of the Director.), I would think twice. And, like Grace
Anne, this thread churned up unhappy memories.
During the week and evenings I had regular, paid daycare but I was
forced to work a Sunday at a different branch. I did not have a spouse
or a teenaged babysitter to rely on that day. To compensate for
bringing my children, I busted my butt and outperformed the entire staff
so no one could ever say I was distracted or shirked responsibilities.
Well, one crabby old cow did and I got a severe reprimand. My kids are
teens now, library employees at other branches, and I still resent the
attitude shown that day.
I think there can be a reasonable workplace guideline to allow for
reasonable employees.
