The Matheson Memorial Library in Elkhorn, WI, seeks an energetic, outgoing and creative Director to improve an already high level of public service and lead the library and staff into the future. MML serves a diverse population of 21,068 from Elkhorn and the surrounding communities. MML is a member of the Lakeshores Library System, and also a member of the SHARE Computer Consortium, serving libraries and our patrons in Walworth, Racine, Dodge, Jefferson and Washington Counties . The Director reports to a 7-member Board of Trustees, and is a City of Elkhorn Department Head. Support groups include a Friends of the Library Group and the Matheson Memorial Library Foundation. Working 40-hours each week, the Director supervises an FTE of 8.1, including 2 professional librarians and support staff who are part of the AFSCME union. Newly expanded and remodeled in 2004, the 27,000 sq. ft. building blends our historic past with our view of the future. Elkhorn (population 8,792) is the seat of Walworth County in the heart of southeastern Wisconsin’s lakes region. With convenient access to major metropolitan areas (Chicago 75 miles, Milwaukee 50 miles, Madison 60 miles), Elkhorn boasts of small town life where school, family & community live in harmony. The school district boasts 3 elementary schools, a brand new middle school, & a recently renovated high school. Elkhorn is 8 miles northwest of Lake Geneva. Elkhorn, the “Christmas Card Town”, is also home of the Walworth County Fair, the greatest fair in the Midwest! Qualified candidates will have an MLS from an ALA-accredited program and previous experience as a Library Director or upper level Department Head. Candidate must hold or be eligible for a Grade 1 Wisconsin Public Librarian Certification. Successful candidates will exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills, proven fiscal knowledge, strong interest in technology, demonstrated team building and motivational skills, and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with Boards, library employees, community leaders and the public. Salary will be based on the experience level of the person selected to fill the position. City of Elkhorn Employee Benefits package is available.
