We have cancelled most of our scholarly journals [most of which go for
$400/yr] and instead purchased 2nd subscriptions to some of the more
popular newspapers and magazines in our area.

We keep one copy out for browsers and a 2nd in a drawer behind the Ref.
Desk. When the one for public display is not on the shelf, there is a
note on the shelf directing those seeking the title to the desk. 

We do this for the more popular newsweeklies and 5 newspapers.

We handle demand for scholarly journals with our online databases.
