[Publib] Budget Cut lists

Hi Susan,
We have greatly decreased the printing for staff- memos are emailed and
posted to our internal blog; policies are saved as a PDF on a separate
policy drive as they are updated- new staff still get a copy of the
policy binder when they start.

Increased email communication with patrons- we've greatly cut down on
our postage costs for overdue notices; we also only send 2nd and 3rd
notices. Stretch out the time length for when you send the notices- send
at two weeks instead of one for instance.

I just pursued a partnership with our park district for joint
sponsorship of programs. They will be giving us $5000 in 2009 towards
the cost of programs. We hope to be able to eliminate fees for programs
and re-introduce group pricing for bus trips.

At night turn off all equipment, including monitors and printers.
Remember to also turn off the power strips. This will not amount to huge
savings but every little bit helps.

These are the ones I thought of off the top of my head.

Subject: [Publib] Budget Cut lists

I am interested in quick, bullet-point lists of places to cut your
budget... especially from small and/or rural public libraries...(getting
rid of the library cat and cat food does not count... nor does getting
rid of turtles, birds, ferrets, etc.) Thanks in advance!
Susan
