I don't think that there is any question that there
is a risk from a hiring perspective for expressing
any opinions - via internet, cocktail party, or public
speech atop a soapbox at the Boston Common.
However, the risk would not come from the act or
medium of expression, it would be derived from
the insecurity of the hiring authority.
The flaw is in the appointment of hiring authority.
The fly is in the ointment.

Dear Michael,
I may be near retirement but I do know how to use a computer, I do read
publib and I do interview and hire people. And I would hazard a guess that
I am not the only one. Employers checking references may also Google their
perspective customers since even the "over the hill" as most libraries
offering training to senior citizens will atest are now familiar with
Google.
So much for your theory there is not risk from a hiring perspective in
posting messages on line.
