I order fiction for our library and once I have the basics covered from Baker & Taylor's pre-pub lists and Automatically Yours, I read all of Library Journal's reviews. Next on the list is Booklist and Publisher's Weekly. I would also check the website for Booksense for little known titles that may be getting a little more attention. Also check the Entertainment Weekly and People's book sections--believe or not they actually cover some really good fiction that might otherwise be missed, plus patrons are going to be looking for them.

I sent this same question out to a number of friends and would love to know
what others are reading.
I'm in a small library with a fairly good budget. I've only been the
Director for a few months and this is the first time I've worked in a public
library. I've just spent about $15,000 on young adult fiction because that
collection had been neglected.
I think now I need to look at the adult fiction collection. I think we're
covered with the bestsellers, the mysteries, the romances and the westerns
through standing order or rental plans.
I've been looking at PW online and have a lot of RSS feeds that are book
related and note things in magazines that I read but I'm missing something.
I feel that Novelistplus also seems to focus on the more popular but perhaps
not literary. I've also been looking at Booklist online. Would it be useful
to get the print Booklist?
What am I missing? What should I be reading to find out about new
contemporary fiction?
Thanks,
Deb
