[Publib] Info on Library Presentations Needed

We do a program the 3rd Wednesday of each month at noon called "New Book
Power Lunch." At this program our acquisitions coordinator presents some of
the new books (and sometimes media) we have received within the month. She
does a short talk on each book. Since we do it at noon the audience is
welcome to bring their lunch - some do and some don't. We provide drinks
(coffee, tea & water). Occasionally the Friends group will provide a
dessert. We have been doing it about 8-9 months and average around 12-15. We
have a few regulars who seldom miss and others who are in and out. They seem
to enjoy it.

We have had authors speak, some state, some well known. Just depends on who
is coming through the area and what state programs are taking place.
Attendance varies.

This coming Saturday we have a photographer who has put together a book of
photographs sell & autograph them here at the library. This person grew up
in Dodge City, taught journalism & photographer at the local community
college and exhibits her work in various shows in the area. She donated a
copy of her book to the library and she is going to donate some of the
profits from her sales to the library.

We do not take these on the road, but do make presentations about the
library or special programs at groups throughout the community.

Subject: [Publib] Info on Library Presentations Needed

I sent this a few days ago but I don't think it ever appeared on the list.

I posted this to Fiction_L a couple of weeks ago so please excuse the
cross-posting.

I am in need of information on what kinds of presentations for adults your
library offers to draw patrons into the library. Following are a few
questions. Please feel free to direct me to a website or send me a personal
email with attachments. I am mainly interested in book-related programs
excluding anything "book groupish".

1) Does your library offer presentations by staff members, e.g. booktalk
and/or regular programs that highlight special collections, new books? How
about adult storytelling? If so, please give a brief description of the
program and how often it is offered. How many usually attend any of these
programs? How do any of these presentations promote your library and
services?

2) Does your library offer programs featuring special appearances by
authors? Are they generally local, statewide, or nationally known? Who
does the organizing of these programs and how is the attendance?

3) Do you offer any other guest speaker programs that highlight books?

4) Do you go out into the community with any of the above programs?

Thanks in advance!

Robin
