My library is in Erie, PA, which is on Lake Erie in NW PA.
One day, a lady came into the library and asked for directions to Cincinnati. Not that unusual a reference question, but the lady was coming from Hagerstown Maryland.
I was very diplomatic as I tried to give explanations to her reason why she was so far off course. I gave her MapQuest directions to Cincinnati.
When I got off the floor and went back to our office, I just busted out laughing. I just couldn't believe that the lady was so far off course.
What happened was she had missed the turnoff at the I-79/I-70 intersection in Washington PA to get on I-70 West. She probably added about 5 hours to her trip.
I would have liked to ask her a couple questions:
1. Did you ever wonder why you were still going north instead of west?
2. Did you ever wonder why after a period of time why you were still in PA instead of WV? She should have only been in PA for half hour or three quarter of an hour.
I was glad that Lake Erie was there or who knows where she would have ended up in Canada.
