Hmmm, I'm beginning to think Joe Schallan posted his message to get all of us to say, "Say it ain't so, Joe."

The quote is especially apropos this week since one of its recent iterations was on political buttons expressing supporters' unhappiness when Senator Joe Biden withdrew from the race for the Democratic Party nomination earlier this year.

Actually, the quote has a lot of mileage on it as I discovered when I googled it a few minutes ago.  The wikipedia entry seems to get to its source:
               http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Shoeless_Joe_Jackson
in a transcript of Shoeless Joe Jackson's reminiscences as told to Furman Bisher, sportswriter for the Atlanta Journal Constitution, in SPORT magazine (October 1949).  Quoting Joe Jackson's: "I guess the biggest joke of all was that story that got out about "Say it ain't so, Joe." Charley Owens of the Chicago Daily News was responsible for that, but there wasn't a bit of truth in it. It was supposed to have happened the day I was arrested in September of 1920, when I came out of the courtroom ...  Charley Owens just made up a good story and wrote it. Oh, I would have said it ain't so, all right, just like I'm saying it now."

So, sign up for Joe's blog but lel's hope that Joe's humor will continue to spill over to publib whenever discussions get too contentious.
