[Publib] How to add an audio-visual collection

I found that adding AV pulled in a whole new clientele that had never
considered using a library. They may well have originally come due to the
movies, but over time (and with a few strategically placed displays), the
vast majority started expanding their use to embrace more 'traditional'
formats, programming, computers, etc. - and they spread the word about all
our collections to their friends, families and neighbors. In that sense, it
is a benefit not only to your circulation, but as a relatively passive way
of outreach to non-users.

Subject: [Publib] How to add an audio-visual collection

For the past few months our library has been trying to implement an
audio-visual collection. Unfortunately, we have been met with resistance
because it is believed that an audio-visual collection will lower the
circulation statistics of our print materials. Does anyone have any
statistics or know of any articles that reflect on how an audio-visual
collection impacts the circulation statistics of print materials? We are
trying to prove that adding an audio-visual collection will boost
circulation statistics overall while not lowering print circulation.
