The Downers Grove Public Library has offered tickets to our local theater for children's summer reading club prizes for years. It is a locally owned independent that shows second run movies in a great old movie house, and they sell us the tickets at big discount.

We are also part of a group of 10 libraries that partner for an annual Big Read (begun several years before the official Big Read, by the way). We look for a movie tie-in to the selected book and hold an event at the same local theatre I mentioned above. The theater rents the movie that the Big Read libraries select and charges their regular admission (recently raised from $3 to $4). The theatre provides their organ player to play the theater organ before the show and they provide a table in the lobby for displays related to the Big Read and Big Read libraries. The Big Read libraries promote the event and often provides additional programming. This year we read "Dream When You're Feeling Blue" about WW II on the home front. We had an Andrews Sisters tribute group who sang and talked about popular music of the period before a showing of "The Best Years of Our Lives."

Has anyone ever collaborated with their local movie theatre(s) on any kind of program? Free or discounted tickets? Private screenings?

Thanks!
