"Since we are on the topic- how do you say Lancaster?" Andrea Berstler.
Andrea should know this since she lives in Lancaster County.
Most cities of that name seem to say lan CAST er. However, if you come to
Lancaster County, PA, and don't want to be taken for a tourist or a
newcomer, you say LAN cast er. We seem to hew closer to the British
pronunciation. You'll really stick out as a tourist if you talk about the
Amish and say A mish instead of AH mish.
It's these subtle differences that mark the natives from the newbies. When
I grew up in western PA nobody washed. We warshed.
