And Spell-check doesn't work when you use the wrong homophone, e.g., to peak someone's interest
instead of to pique someone's interest, which I observed recently.

What prompted that change? Possibly the same change that caused people to use the words 'bring' and 'take' incorrectly which drives me nuts. And although this is local, I work in McLean pronounced as McLane since it was established many long years ago. I realize that if you look at the word, the spelling of Lean is not phonetically Lane but that's way the elders pronounced it. About 15 years ago, media began pronouncing it as MacLean or worse M'Clean. So new people moving to this area took up with media and now those pronunciations have become accepted, even on stationery and business cards and advertising--although I am still hanging on to the original pronunciation.==================================================Glenda Gibson | Freddie Mac | CIRC | Technical Services Librarian | 703-903-3116CIRC Says: Search the Catalog from Your Desk
