We used to do this, but (and this may just very well be the nature of
Joplin) found that a lot of people (at least the ones we wanted to find
later) gave us either totally fake info or when we contacted their
"reference" they were angry with us and said that they didn't know the
person, or would like to know where the #&$&#* was themselves, or that
they vaguely remembered them but certainly had no idea where they went
and why were we bothering them? FWIW

Hi Nina-
We ask for a name and contact number for "someone who doesn't live with
you, but with whom you remain in contact" so we can find people after
they've left town and packed up our stuff with their stuff. No one has
objected to the request, and it is very useful to have those numbers.
