Mamie -- I'd say the kindle is a better bet than Sony because Amazon is in
the book business, not Sony. When you have to get your content from the
manufacturer of the device, I'd go with the one known for distributing
books, not stereos.

I've not been disappointed with kindle selection, although I *am*
disappointed not to be able to put overdrive DRM ebooks on my kindle, and
sometimes there are books I can't find on kindle. Luckily, I'll read in any
format but on my computer screen, so it hasn't been a problem.

A great feature of kindle is being able to sample a book before buying it.
The sample selections are usually long enough to make a decision about the
book (roughly 3 chapters, depending on the publisher's decision).
