Logan, it sounds like you're volunteering to write a grant for that music lab idea. Sounds like it would be a fun thing to draw in teens and young adults. Not to mention the programming opportunities! Heck, go wild and include some video and photo editing software too!
I know they have these labs in some colleges, but I don't know the legal implications. Would be a cool thing to offer, though not standard fare by any means.
Incidentally, with the Pharos Nerve Center you can send a message to the customer who is blasting out the eardrums of everyone in the immediate vicinity. "Turn down the sound or we will log you off the computer!" Works great. I admit to taking an evil pleasure in logging out troublemakers after their final warning.

Ah, I should elaborate on our setup here. We don't have any speakers on our computers either, and the headphones are BYO. However, our population insists on turning up the volume so that at least their immediate neighbors must share in the joyful experience. They lab is far enough away that we cannot police it constantly for volume levels. They see us coming, turn it down, then turn it back up when we leave. Even if we find them and give them a warning, they can turn it back up later. Very annoying, to say the least.
I like the idea of creating an actual music lab that has music and sound editing software on it. I wonder what that would cost?
