[Publib] Books and Kindle

Hi all,

I would never buy a Kindle, however, I won one in a drawing from Amazon.
I didn't want to like it, but alas, I love it. It is so easy to use and
the downloads are painless. My husband was able to download some
technical manuals from other sources as well.

It feels good in my hands, the page turning function is intuitive, and I
love that I can adjust the size of the font in the books. You really
need to leave the cover on the Kindle when you read, otherwise your
fingers push the buttons too easily and inadvertently. It will be great
for travel but probably not great for traveling to the beach, I would be
afraid of getting it wet or sandy.

What I don't like...the price - I would never have bought one for $359
and I have a hard time paying for books when I have such easy access to
free library books. For example, I downloaded the Twilight series and
intended to download the fourth, Breaking Dawn, but when I read the bad
reviews, I decided to check it out from the library instead of paying
the $9.99.

I hesitate to rave about the Kindle to non-library folks because I know
that if they try it they will love it and I will never get them into the
library. I would mourn the loss of traditional books, but the author of
the Washington Post article may be right, Amazon may win the battle.
