[Publib] processing books for multiple locations (branches)

1. The only thing that looks different in the catalog is that items on order show a location "Library Administration." Otherwise, when an item is checked into a branch, the location is that branch until it leaves again. So the answer to both parts of this question is "yes".

2. Yes, a branch only gets requests for items on its shelves, but that was true before.

Could you briefly explain how the ILS indicates where a
given item is at a given time? Specifically...
When you look up an item in the patron catalog, how can you tell
whether a particular library has it on their shelf? Would a patron
checking from home be able to tell whether his/her local branch has a
  particular title on the shelf?
How does the ILS generate paging requests for items on hold? Does each
library get only the requests for items on shelf at that
  library?
Just curious-- I can't see our county ever
instituting such a system as we are a federation of relatively independent
libraries, with separate library boards, budgets, and collection development
policies.

Not only can I envision it, our library system has been floating its collection for over a month. And we're far from the only ones doing so.

Just wondering if anyone here in libraries with multiple branches processes (or has this done by vendor) books without stamping or otherwise physically identifying the book as belonging to a particular branch? Can you envision shelving the books at the branch where they are checked in instead of sending them back to the branch they were originally meant for? (The barcode being the only distinguishing characteristic).

Thanks.

Peggy
