[Publib] Children of internet users

I don't know how much of a problem this actually is in your library, but I don't see why you can't 'beef up' this policy. Like a movie theater, this library is a public space, and violating internet use policies and other disruptive behavior to other patrons probably should warrant warnings or eviction?

  has this line:

  Responsibility for the welfare and behavior of children in the Library rests with the parent/legal guardian or assigned chaperone. The Library Staff does not provide care or supervision of children, except to the extent needed to uphold City Policy and the Library Rules of Behavior.

  And our patron behavior policy (http://library.las-cruces.org/patronbehavior.html)
  has this line:

   Leaving children under the age of eight or      vulnerable adults unsupervised or unattended or otherwise violating the      provisions of the Library Policy on Unattended Children;
  For purposes of this policy "unattended" means that the person responsible for the child or vulnerable adult is not within their sight.

  But I think we should look into beefing it up a little. I used to go to a movie theatre in upstate NY that had a policy that said, “If your child is disruptive, then you will be asked to leave”. I like that.

  We have policies dealing with patron conduct which require parents to closely supervise their children. Internet users don’t seem to pay much attention to these policies. We’ve had parents get really upset when we politely ask them to pay a little more attention to their children.

    Does anybody have a policy that deals with internet users who bring their children with them to the library?

    We're seeing that, typically, the adult unrealistically expects the child (anywhere from infant to several years old) to sit silently next to them while they use the computer for 1-2 hrs, OR they allow the somewhat older child to roam around the library space.

    Any input would be appreciated.
