A few years ago we discussed in many library venues the issue of using fingerprints for circulation and computer use (and probably anything one would use a library card for) in libraries. There are many privacy issues that arise. I just did a quick search on "fingerprints" and "library" and came up with some of the articles that came out at the time as well as the company providing this service. Here are some of them:

As I recall, there were many more articles and then the whole issue seemed to disappear.

Apparently, "we" isn't a large enough sample to be economically viable.

A company which offered "pay by touch" biometric service in over 600 grocery
stores filed for Chapter 11 about 3 weeks ago, suspending its services in
all its partner stores.
An idea before its time? Or something else entirely? Anyone use the Pay By
Touch method when they visited the grocery store? I've been to a number of
those stores, and I've never had the desire to give it a try.
