CATALOGING LIBRARIAN OPPORTUNITY AT TOPEKA & SHAWNEE COUNTY PUBLIC
LIBRARY, TOPEKA, KANSAS!

 

DUTIES:  Catalogs and classifies library materials. Uses Online Computer
Library Center (OCLC) to import and create Machine-Readable Cataloging
(MARC) records for Library database. Creates MARC records for input into
OCLC and Library database. Analyzes, designs and applies solutions to
collection issues. Discards materials that have outlived their
usefulness. Trains and mentors staff; leads or participates in work
teams and focus groups.

 

REQUIREMENTS/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Master's degree from a school of
library or information science program accredited by the American
Library Association and at least three years of experience performing
cataloging duties, or equivalent combination of education and
experience. Thorough knowledge of professional library principles,
procedures, materials and practices; thorough knowledge of reader
interest levels; thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of
cataloging and classifying library materials; ability to evaluate
library programs and services, and to recommend and implement new
systems or improvements; ability to plan and supervise the work of
subordinates; ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with associates and library patrons.  Previous experience
in customer service is preferred.  

 

A pre-and/or post-employment drug screen, a criminal history record
check, and physical capacity testing are required as a condition of
employment.  

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS:   The salary range begins at $42,502.01 per year.
