I quit flying UA years ago when I told them it was very hard for me to do stairs or walk very far and I had just gate checked my wheelchair.  

The gate female (no Lady) "If you want to fly on that plane you will do the stairs (two flights of them) or miss the plane we don't have access for handicapped"

I haven't flown UA since and we used to fly a lot with kids in Alaska, Scotland & on the east coast and we live in KS.
I also tell other people about the experience.  Have you seen the training on "Give Them The Pickle"?  Great!
But you don't want to get me started on tales of handicapped places that weren't!
