Library Director - Lane Memorial Library, Hampton, NH 

Lane Memorial Library, the public library of Hampton, NH seeks a 
creative and  dynamic Library Director due to a recent retirement. 
Hampton is a lovely seaside community of 16,000 year round residents, 
located in the southeastern part of NH within proximity to lakes, 
mountains and major cities, including Boston.  Lane Memorial 
Library´s 2008 annual budget is  810K;  staff size is 10.47 FTEs; 
collection size is approx. 70,000 items and building is 16,500 sq ft.
Description:

The Library Director performs professional and administrative library 
work directing and managing all activities and operations of the 
Library. The Library Director is hired by and reports directly to the 
Library Board of Trustees. The Library Director shall be responsible 
for the general administration of the library, staff supervision, 
budget preparation and management, financial reporting, long-range 
planning, development of policies, programs and outreach services.

Duties:
oDevelop and maintain the library´s strategic plan, outlining 
immediate and long range goals, together with the Library´s Board of 
Trustees. 
oResponsible for recommending and writing needed policies and 
procedures, which incorporate library best practice. Implement 
adopted policies. 
oResponsible for all staff supervision and supervision of department 
heads. 
oWill oversee Interviewing, recommending for hire, training, 
scheduling, and evaluating all library staff. 
oPrepare and propose to Trustees the annual operating budget for the 
Library. 
oAdminister the approved budget. 
oPrepare financial and narrative reports for distribution at monthly 
Board meetings. 
oWrite grant proposals and pursue other fundraising opportunities to 
actualize library goals. 
oDetermine community interests and develop responsive new programs 
and services, incorporating new technologies to enhance service 
delivery whenever possible. 
oOversee library public relations, including writing press releases, 
outreach, and marketing services. Work with donors and patrons to 
foster charitable gifts and to accommodate purchase preferences. 
Acknowledge receipt of all library gifts. 
oReport library statistics to the NH State Library and Board of 
Trustees. 
oOversee the maintenance and repair of the library facility and 
grounds. 
oAct as library liaison to the Friends, town departments, schools, 
and community groups. 
oParticipate in daily library functions (circulation, reference, 
etc.), as needed. 
oDemonstrate a professional demeanor in all interactions with 
patrons and library staff. 
oResponsible for and encouraged to attend professional meetings and 
conferences. 
oPerform any other duties, as may be requested or assigned by the 
Board of Trustees. 
Qualifications:
Requires a Master´s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited 
college or university, five to seven years of professional library 
experience including  three years in an administrative capacity. The 
Library Director should have a thorough knowledge of municipal 
government and applicable NH RSAs; proven ability to work effectively 
with Boards of Trustees, Friends and governing bodies; the ability to 
work effectively with town/school employees, and elected town 
officials;  modern library principles and best practices; experience 
with teambuilding and human resource management; the ability to 
recruit, train, and motivate staff for optimal public service 
delivery; a strong understanding of information technology and its 
application in public libraries; the ability to demonstrate courtesy 
and tact in all interactions with community members; the ability to 
develop and manage budgets; and have good communication, public 
relations, and presentation skills.

Hiring Range: 59K - 64K depending on qualifications.  Full-Time 
position.  Excellent benefits  including health, dental  and life 
insurance; paid vacation, holidays and sick days; and participation 
in the NH Retirement System.
