Joe,

Wired's Geekipedia is available on-line here:

Keeping the copy in the back office instead of
sharing it sounds like something Stalin would
do.

Subject: [Publib] Godwin's Law and the Geekipedia

I've had an email address since 1993, have participated in online forums
since almost that far back, and somehow I had missed Godwin' s Law -- i.e.,
that the longer a thread continues, the greater the probability that someone
will compare someone else to Hitler or a Nazi.

Now, for the second time in less than a week, Godwin's Law again landed
right in front of my eyes, this time on page 25 of Wired Magazine's
Geekipedia, which comes as a supplement to the current issue of that
magazine.

The subtitle of the Geekipedia is "149 People, Places, Ideas, and Trends You
Need to Know Now," and there these things are, APIs to Zillow.

If one more library visionary uses the term "long tail," I'm going to plotz.
But in case you wonder what it means, the Geekipedia has it. And entries for
carbon offsets, cloudware, copyleft, crowdsourcing, leet, meganiche,
mobisode, Twitter, Ubuntu, and many others.

So are you going to put it out for the patrons along with the regular issue,
or keep it in the back office to pass around among yourselves?

Joe S.
PHX
