Well, in my former library the old-timers used to talk about the
director being found one morning back in the mid-1940s. I don't
remember if she was dead at the time or if she died at the hospital.
She was quite old--late 70's or early 80's--and would spend the night on
a couch in the office if she didn't feel like walking home at night.

Subject: [Publib] Dead Man Check--inquiring minds want to know!
Ok, this is a real Saturday-type, frivolous question, but one of
our pages has asked if anyone has ever really found a dead person during
their closing time "dead man check" of the library building? We (yes,
me, too!) would very much like to know--so we can keep telling staffers
to do this, if for no other reason!...Email me (asataeger at yahoo.com) or
the list, as you prefer.
(Other incidents are also welcome, such as finding someone
lurking in the restroom, but that has come up before on the list.)
Thanks so much!
